On a typical weekend day, you can find my wife, Kristin, and me going on strolls around the Market Common, eating our Saturday lunch at California Pizza, hitting up the matinee at Grande 14, and discussing all things important in life. This past weekend on our Saturday date we gotten into a typical discussion. I like to say that I’m still a kid but my lovely wife insists that I am NOT a kid. Since I have “grown up,” I would like to think my tastes have become a bit more refined. However, our trip to the grocery store yesterday made me realize I’m not sure what that really means. Kristin and I were picking out some wine. We don’t have any idea what makes wine good (just that she likes wine!); however, I do know that an $11 bottle of wine at Bi-Lo is NOT as good as a $100 bottle wine. Staring blankly at the surprisingly large selection, we found ourselves picking the wine based on whether or not we liked the label and if it would go well with our home decor after the bottle was empty when Kristin puts some flowers in it and it finds its place on the kitchen bar….. We chose Crows Wood….. and one with an old french style drawing of a bicycle came in a close second.

So I have decided lately to go back to my roots in skateboarding. I skated for the greater part of my life…. im only 24 so its not really that long. Trophy Lakes

We went out to Trophy Lakes this weekend in Charleston SC. I hate that we dont have anything like this place in Myrtle Beach. This place has two “lakes” which are actually just long ponds. One side is a slalom ski course and the other is set up for wakeboarding with a nice up rail, a big A frame rail, and a long flat rail. At this location they have a small but “core” board shop. This was a “chill and ride” day where you pay $35 and you take turns all day. It’s called Wake Fest and they have it on the last weekend of every month. On a typical week day or weekend, you call up and book a lake time in advance to eliminate the waiting around and the $35 will get you 25-30 min ride time. Anyway… I was hooked up with a ladder that we put in the water next to the A frame rail and had my lovely wife stand at the bottom. I would climb the ladder and shoot that rail then jump down grab my second camera with my long lens and shot the up rail from water level. Click the sequence to see it larger. Busy Summer

So Its early on in the summer and I have been busy. Now that my .com is up and running smooth I thought I would take a little time to post just a few of the recent things I have done. I am going to be working on revamping this blog and make sure I am a little better about updating this blog from now on.

It has been a couple months since my last post but I have been super busy since then. I have also launched my new web site, BOBBYALTMAN.COM.

Well its finally here. Shot this photo on the the front late in the summer of ’09. people on their docks watched as me and an assistant floated with life vests down the Intracoastal Waterway here in sunny Myrtle Beach for about a mile as I shot photos and he held a strobe up out of the water… obviously triggered wirelessly. This is the cover of the 2010 Western Power Sport watercraft catalogue that can be found in power sports shops across the nation. stop by your local one and ask if WPS is a distributor for them then ask to see the catalogue.

Last week I had booked a shoot with Bijuju Accessories boutique formally named Vanity. With the new name change comes a new web site layout and image. I shot these photos for the web and for some advertising. We shot in Bijuju owners Abe and Joujou Safas home. My wife again was the model and by the end of the day had the house destroyed from moving furniture to place lights and reflectors. Here are a few images that we came up with. This week I was pitched, last minute, the opportunity to shoot some photos to go in a new web layout for a local womans accessories store. I was given a time frame of about 3 hours. So I rounded up my wife and shot a photo in our living room in front of your tree. I shot long to really compress the background and the photo is lit with two strobes on large umbrellas and a reflector in her lap.

The other location we shot at was in a parking garage at Market Commons in Myrtle Beach one location in the garage was a vine covered fence that had strong sun light coming through it. Again same concept, long lense to compress the background, this time with one strobe on a large umbrella and the reflector blocking the sunlight on her opposite side and adding a little fill lighting on that side as well.

Allie and tre’ Capp wedding

Here are a few photos from Allie and Tre’ Capp’s wedding on Sat. The day started out looking gloomy and then the drizzle started but about an hour before the wedding the rain stopped, the ground dried and the humidity actually dropped a little making a great atmosphere for an outdoor wedding. Bridal Session

Last nights bridal portrait session went well despite the rain, ticks, and missing out on Africa with my best friend Scott Smallin. We shot at Atalya castle in Huntington beach state park. A wedding was actually going on inside the castle so we shot around the outside and in the dunes. Photos were shot with two strobes one rim and one bounce out of an umbrella. The umbrella was on a stand held by an assistant above and infront of the bride and an assistant with a reflector trying to give just a little fill on the right. Recent summer work

Its been a little while since I have updated this so I figured I would put a couple things on this post both summer related but complete opposite in types of work.

First this is this Mojito for a summer mix drink article that is in this issue of GS Magazine. shot with two lights on a glass table on the patio at noon. Shot on the glass to get the reflection with the main light bouncing off an umbrella to camera right and rim light in yard to the left cross lighting the drink. An assistant held a white skrim over the drint to try and soften and block some of the noon sun.

The second image is of a jet ski racer named Jim Chester for Western Power Sports. This image was a bit more difficult. With life jackets to keep me and an assistant from drowning we floated nearly a half mile down the intracoastal waterway, with my camera in an underwater housing and a strobe in a ziplock bag. I under exposed the background/sky by one stop and had my assistant hand hold a strobe up high. Panning with Jim helped keep him sharp while adding a little motion to the background. strobe was on 1/2 power in manual with the camera at f/5.6 250th of a sec. at 400ISO.
